چکیده
Thompson, J.A. 1983. Production and quality control of carrier-based legume inoculants. Information Bulletin No. 17. Patancheru, A.P., India: International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, Commercial production of legume inoculants began in 1895 in the USA and UK. In the 1980s they are produced in all continents. Most are used with powdered organic carriers such as peat, although other carriers have shown promise. The bulletin outlines the use of small fermentation vessels for production of Rhizobium inoculant Inoculant production is explained, with emphasis on quality control measures. Types and suitabilities of various worldwide inoculant carriers are discussed along with treatment and packaging techniques to ensure maximum effectiveness and sterility. Tips on contaminant-free handling in the workplace are included, stressing the need for qualified personnel and suitable basic facilities. Sources and selection of inoculant strains, and transportation of inoculants, are also considered. Examples of national and private bodies governing the manufacture of inoculants are reviewed, and standards for production are suggested. Legume Inoculants and Quality Control
Rhizobial inoculants have been used successfully in world agriculture for about 100 years. About 20 million ha crop and pasture legumes are inoculated in the world each year, although that figure could be increased if high-quality inoculants were available to all farmers. The characteristics of a high-quality inoculant relate to the properties of the carrier, the infective (nodulating) and effe...

Growth and survival of two rhizobial strains, Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii, and Mesorhizobium ciceri, were used to evaluate residues from the cork industry as potential carriers for production of rhizobial inoculants. A peat-based carrier was used as a control. 41 days after inoculation, the number of viable bacteria was high, about 109 bacteria g-1 for all carriers. Rhizobial survival ...

Nothing is more important for effective nodulation of legumes that the availability of sufficient numbers of an infective strain of rhizobia in the root zone of seedlings. In some cases, the soil will contain sufficient numbers of infective rhizobia but modern approaches to the use of genetically superior strains of rhizobia practically demands the use of some means of inoculation, thus raising...
متن کاملSurvival of Rhizobium phaseoli in Coal-Based Legume Inoculants Applied to Seeds.
Eight coals used as carriers in legume inoculants promoted the survival of Rhizobium phaseoli on pinto bean seeds. Although peat was more protective, most coal-based inoculants provided >10 viable rhizobia per seed after 4 weeks.

Microorganisms are major key players for sustaining the soil quality degraded by intensive use of synthetic chemicals for increasing crop production and therefore, use of them as inoculants or biofertilizers is an integral part of sustainable agriculture. An effort was, therefore, made to examine the effect of cellulose degrading bacterial isolates on legume (Chickpea) based cropping systems. N...
